Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lippies Review & Swatches

Last year was the Maybelline breakout year for me. After spending all my life knowing the brand but not really being a fan or ever really buying anything, I suddenly became a huge fan of their Maybelline Moisture Matte lippies plus the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Maybelline Dream Wonder foundations. I also really enjoy the Maybelline Blushed Nudes Palette, even though I know not a lot of people like it. When I happened upon their new launches for 2016 a few weeks ago, I was over the moon. I have already reviewed the Maybelline The Rock Nudes Palette (HERE) and unfortunately that was a not a winner for me. But that doesn't mean that I am not interested in checking out the other launches, especially the lippies. My first love when it comes to makeup is lipstick, so I was totally stoked to check out the new Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid Lippies. I got these on BOGO 50% off from Ulta plus I stacked a 20% off coupon. The price if I remember correctly is $7.99 each.

There's a ton of mixed reviews on line for these, ranging from really bad to really good, today I want to give you my opinion.

The shades that I picked up are:

Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid in Nude Thrill
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid in Nude Flush
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid in Berry Boost
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid in Rebel Red

These pictures where taken at the end of the day so they are darker than usual and this is my nose after two weeks of a full blown cold so excuse the peeling.

Nude Thrill is a peachy nude shade that is a lot more wearable than most nudes in this shade range. I found the color to go on easily without any streaking and very pigmented. I'm actually very happy with this color because I usually can't wear the nudest shade in any collection, yet I think this looks fine on my skin tone.

Nude Flush is a pinky nude that can be easier to wear than Nude Thrill. I found the formula of this one to be exactly the same as the other one, it went on fully pigmented and no streaking.

Berry Boost is a very beautiful berry shade that is going to be super complementary on just about every skintone. If you're not a nude fan or a red fan then I would definitely say this is one of those in between shades that you should pick up. Out of the four shades that I picked up, Berry Boost is definitely my favorite because it immediately perked up my face and gives it so much life.

Rebel Red veers a little on the orange for me because I prefer more a blue or pink red but it's definitely a beautiful color. The formula for me was the same on the four shades. I didn't find any of these for to be streaky or patchy, nor did the pigment move around the lips at all.

As soon as I saw the first pictures for this new collection I knew that I loved the shade selection. No, there's nothing revolutionary nor is any shade completely original here, but the range includes shades that I always enjoy. Plus I was really stoked that they had two very wearable nudes, which is not always the case.

Now we need to talk about the formula of the Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid lipsticks. First of all these are not a liquid lipstick like ColourPop. When talking about a liquid lipstick, one tends to think about the formulas that dry completely matte on your lips and stay on for hours on end. For me this formula is very much like the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams. The formula is something of a moussey liquid that goes on your lips very comfortably and when you rub them together it feels incredibly soft. I personally love how these feel on the lips and think they're super comfortable. There is a scent to these lipsticks as well that a lot of people are finding a problem with because it's a bit perfumy. The scent didn't bother me in the least and I find that I can work with this formula because I don't want a drying liquid lipstick every day of my life. In fact even though I own a lot of liquid lipsticks, I wear them very randomly because I prefer more of a velvety feel on my lips. The only problem that I find with them is that they are incredibly transferable since the formula is very moussey and thicker. Also don't expect a matte finish, again think NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams, and as far as I can tell they take an hour or so to dry and lose their initial shine.

If you can get past the fact that these are not a traditional matte lippie; if a bit of a perfumey style scent doesn't bother you and you can live with some transfer, then you might be a fan of these lippies. I would suggest waiting for a sale so that you don't pay full price for them, don't forget that you can always return them if you don't like them. Personally I love the presentation and I love the shades and I love the fact that I have found two more nude shades that I can wear. I love how velvety soft they feel on my lips and will be waiting for a sale to pick up a few more.
